5. Make Money
Etsy’s business model generates revenue including a fee of 3.5% of sale value, which an Etsy seller pays for each completed transaction, and a listing fee of 20 Cents per item. ‘Seller Services’, Etsy’s fastest growing revenue stream, includes fees for services such as Promoted Listings, payment processing and purchases of shipping labels through the platform. ‘Other’ revenue includes fees received from third-party payment processors.
Your biggest revenue source is the 3.5% sale value fee. Focus on maximizing seller listings and optimizing your website for sales. Listing fees will add to your bottom line and help you cover employee and other expenses. The easier you make it for sellers to market their store, the more money you will make.
Provide your sellers with lots of tools & resources to help them boost sales. Don’t view your sellers as “seller fees” but rather as business partners. Etsy has over 1 million sellers but I guarantee only 20% of the sellers drive 80% of the sales (check out the Pareto Principle).
Identify your “Power Sellers” and work exclusively with them to boost their sales. You only need a handful of great sellers to build a highly profitable website like Etsy.
